Through From here and There: stories of migrant people I explored how personal stories of migration can shift perceptions, moving beyond numbers and statistics to reveal the lived realities of displacement, belonging, and identity.

For this project I worked across three axes: a theoretical framework, a series of in-depth interviews, and the design of objects as testimonies. Together, these strands allowed me to bring forward the complexity of migration not as an abstract phenomenon, but as something embodied, narrated, and materialized.

What happens when we approach migration not through categories, but through the voices and experiences of those who live it? This was the questioned that ignited the research. Rather than reducing people to “immigrants” or “refugees,” I listened to friends, family members, and acquaintances who have crossed borders. Their words shaped the contours of the project, guiding me toward ways of representing migration as a deeply human process of adaptation, struggle, and resilience.

Each object I created corresponds to a story. These are not literal illustrations, but crafted forms that hold memory and meaning: a plate, a toy, a piece of jewelry, a fragment of material culture that embodies a journey. Some are intimate, carrying the weight of longing or nostalgia; others are collective, resonating with the themes of identity, home, and the tension of being “from here and there” at once.

The work culminated in a body of narratives and designs that form a mosaic of migration stories. Rather than providing definitive answers, it opens a space of encounter—between theory and testimony, between object and person, between the here and the elsewhere.

From here and there: stories of migrant people is a project about listening, witnessing, and crafting ways of making the presence of migrants felt —beyond statistics, beyond stereotypes— through stories that insist on the dignity and complexity of every life on the move.
